First Baptist Church of Cedar Hill is a Christ-centered congregation who has been serving our community for over 150 years and is committed to glorifying God in all things, through worship and gospel-centered fellowship, faithful preaching, discipleship, and community outreach. The church seeks to gather people to know Christ, follow Christ and walk in obedience to him, and share Christ in their daily lives. It serves families and individuals in Cedar Hill and surrounding communities with a strong emphasis on Scripture-based teaching and relational ministry. We are part of or associated with the St. Louis Metro Association, Missouri Baptist Convention, Southern Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board.

What we believe

 

We believe in the inerrant word of God.We are saved by the grace of God, and not by any good works that we do or have done, how many times you come to Church, how generous or good of a person you are. We believe in the 5 Solas; Scripture alone, Faith alone, Christ alone, Grace alone and the Glory of God alone. We believe in the Trinity; God, Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe Christ was born, lived and died according to the Scriptures. We believe he was crucified, died on the cross, buried and rose again and now sits at the right hand of God the Father. We believe all that is written in the Apostles Creed is true. We observe the 2 ordinances; Baptism and the Lord's supper. We believe that baptism is a public declaration of our faith, but it doesn’t save you. We believe that the Old Testament and the New Testament are of equal importance and linked together through the teachings of the Prophets and the preaching of the Disciples.

Mission: To proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, disciple believers, and equip members to serve both locally and globally.                                                 

To be a growing, Christ-centered church that impacts its community through biblical truth, loving fellowship, and faithful witness.

We want our congregation, regardless of their past, to show the power that God has to change lives.

 

 

Congregational Life

 

The church provides ministries for all ages designed to foster spiritual growth and fellowship, such as:

 

• Children’s discipleship programs

• Bible studies and small groups

• Fellowship gatherings

• Outreach opportunities

 

The culture is welcoming, family-oriented, and focused on building genuine relationships rooted in Christ. We average between 50 to 70 people on Sundays and the average age of our congregation is 50 to 60 years old, with a smaller Children's Department that does Bible study and is a part of our adult worship service, for the purpose of learning a deeper understanding of who God truly is. 

 

 

Leadership & Governance

 

The church is structured as an elder-led congregation, where biblically qualified elders provide spiritual oversight, shepherding, and doctrinal guidance. Elders work together to discern vision, guard biblical teaching, and care for the congregation, while ministry staff and ministry leaders serve alongside them in carrying out the church’s mission. This leadership model emphasizes shared pastoral responsibility, accountability, servant leadership, and prayerful decision-making for the health and growth of the Church.

First Baptist Church of Cedar Hill is governed by a plurality of biblically qualified elders under the headship of Jesus Christ. The Pastor serves as a teaching elder and is first among equals, sharing equal authority and accountability with the Elder Council. Final authority for doctrine, discipline, membership and leadership rests with the elders under Christ and Scripture.
